Shae has never been half-assed about her illnesses. Like so many other things in life, if you're going to do it then why not just go full-bore and REALLY do it -- that's her motto, anyway.
Daycare called Jody yesterday to come pick Shae up, as they suspected pink eye. His first inclination was to call me at work to ask what I thought; I kept my thoughts to myself, but told him to go pick her up.
I called her doctor, knowing that the last time she had pink eye (a couple years ago) they just called in a prescription to the pharmacy because they don't want that kind of goopy contageon walking into their offices. This time was different, though, and they said they had an opening at 3:30. Perfect.
I called Jody back to let him know, and... well this blog is not meant to be my therapist, my dumping ground, nor my garbage heap, so I'll just summarize to say that he did take her to the doctor, but not without some preliminary whining involved. He's very busy, you know!
Doctor confirmed: not only pink eye, but strep throat too. Oof. As a result, Shae was not able to join her class today on a field trip to the Museum of Nature and Science. Aw!
So instead I'm sitting at the dining table trying to get some work done while she plays Polly Pockets. The running commentary is absolutely awesome: "Thank you, Amelia. Why yes I would like to go on the airplane mother! Thank you for asking. Yes I do use good manners. I am also the rainbowest fairy princess of all the land and I command you to make me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich while I sit in the bathtub with a Capri Sun and watch the TinkerBell movie. No, I'm afraid Jaime [yes, me] can't go too because she is talking to someone on the phone and asking me to shush while we find our airplane and the kitty cat mouse costume for the costume ball where Prince His Royal Highness James the Great will be dancing with all the ladies!" And so on.
I'm dreading 46 minutes from now when I have to give her the eye drops to kick the pink eye to the curb. Jody administered them this morning and warned me it wasn't easy. (Again: the last time we had to do this she was two. And there were two of us. Memories get hazy.) I scoffed, knowing [ahem] that things for moms are always easier than they are for dads. Let's just say I CANNOT BELIEVE that the police and/or Child Protective Services has not knocked on my door this afternoon -- it was THAT ugly. Wish me luck on the 4:00 dose.
TGIF.

Guess who's back? Back again?
Eminem!!
No, not Eminem. Shae! And Jaime! And... nope, just us. Us gals are flying solo these days, doin' our own girl thang -- and having a great time.
With all the changes that 2013 has brought us, I've decided to resurrect the ol' blog. But under the auspice of a new name with a new intent: to chronicle the daily (er... weekly...) goings on of little miss Shae Lily Bennigsdorf (she kept the name, and even knows how to spell it!) and regale our readers -- all six of you -- with her hilarious stories, observations, goings on, and adventures. So kind of like Seinfeld, but from a pre-schooler's standpoint.
I can't promise a photo album with every post (Facebook takes care of that), but when images are needed to supplement the story -- a la National Geographic, or TMZ -- then there they will be.
Thanks for sticking with us, friends. No matter how much things change it's always good to fall back on what we know, and we know who loves us. Here's to another fun year. To 2013! To Shae! Towanda!!

Get ready...
It's a new year and it's time to catch up with some photos!
Shae and I (and Jody, to a certain degree) spent the last week of December on a stay-cation, home from work and daycare. We tried to do "one fun thing" every day of our vacation!
Go Badgers!

On Christmas Eve we went to Gramma and Baba's house for dinner and presents. Shae wore the dress that Gramma made especially for her.

Zoey was not entirely keen on Shae's decision to involve her in the gift opening portion of the evening.

We were so happy to have Uncle John with us for Christmas!

Always the goofus.

Nothing says "Christmas" like glow sticks!

Turns out Santa DOES know where our house is! Christmas morning was delightful. (Shae slept in her piggie tails but took them out before coming downstairs. Her hair cracks me up.)

Santa knew that Shae asked him for a "rabbit" for Christmas! (His interpretation of what a "rabbit" meant was subjective, though -- instead of a live critter, he delivered Max & Ruby dolls and a Max & Ruby book.)

Shae shows Dad the ornament that she made at school.

So many presents, so little time.

MORE DORA GEAR?! YAY!!

Zoey is pleased as punch at her gift.

...and we haven't stopped playing it since... :-)

Shae really thinks her new bathrobe and slippers are something special.

Seriously: Zoey did not get up off her pillow all day! That's a dog bone wrapped up next to her -- she couldn't have cared less about it.

Another opportunity to open presents at Uncle Craig's house on Christmas day afternoon. (Shae is totally convinced that Christmas is a week-long activity, much like Hannukah.)

Sittin' with all the big kids on the sofa.

Thanks for the super awesome, super loud guitar Aunt Cindy. :-|

The day after Christmas we went to the zoo. The dude-lions were walking around right on the other side of the glass. Shae was a **little** unsure of their proximity at first, but then thought it was VERY COOL.

Lovely day for a walk.
Peeking at the hippo.

Time to ride the carousel!

Posing on the oxen wagon.

Perfect follow-up to the zoo is a burger at the Cherry Cricket. Seriously: it's perfect.

More Christmas presents! Aunt Peg, Uncle Mike and Maggie's gifts arrived just a wee bit late thanks to a pretty big snowstorm right before Christmas. But Shae sure didn't care -- that just means more opportunity to rip open wrapping paper.

...and yet even more presents! (It really is obscene.) After the Minnesota Wrabetz family returned from... well... Minnesota, we had our Wrabetz family Christmas.

Gettin' upside down with crazy Uncle Brian.
Another wonderful year of blessings has come to a close. Thank you one and all for sharing such a delightful year with us, and watching our little turkey grow up. Here's to a wonderful 2012 to one and all!
